Management and disposal of Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) from eight (8) VA medical facilities & over 20 clinics in New Jersey and New York state (VISN 3). The types of waste covered under this contract include hazardous, cytotoxic, infectious & pathogenic wastes, including blood and blood products; animal & human tissues, body parts, bedding and carcasses; biological and pharmaceutical waste; sharps; and isolation waste (Aids, Hepatitis etc.).

2) USCG, Maritime Restoration Monitoring

NEIE is subcontracted to Preferred Systems Solutions, Inc (PSS) to supervise & monitor the USCG’s contractors performing maritime debris and hazardous material removal operations within the nine parishes surrounding New Orleans, LA. NEIE is providing monitors, sm. boats & operators to perform the tasks. NEIE’s responsibilities include monitoring and documenting of pre-project and post-project conditions, quantity verification, project QA/QC via side-scan sonar, and contractor level of effort for over 55,000 cubic yards of scheduled debris.

A) Flood Recovery, Binghamton, NY. NEIE assisted in the disaster recovery efforts in Binghamton, NY and surrounding areas of impact. NEIE activities included collection, management and disposal of accumulated debris and hazardous material throughout the impact area using a variety of amphibious vehicles. Additional activities included demolition for material volume reduction, material characterization and segregation, removal & disposal services, hazardous materials management, material characterization & disposal, and spill containment & remediation.
B) Westwood Chemical Corp. CERCLA Site, Middletown, NY. Response, investigation and remediation of abandoned chemical manufacturing facility containing in excess of 800 drums; 200K gallons of bulk liquids within 74 storage tanks ranging from 1,000 to 16,000 gallons; 950K pounds of concentrated chemicals, 9K linear feet of process lines, and three on site laboratories. Concentrated high-hazard reagents within the three on site laboratories were identified and labpacked for disposal. 371K gallons of wastewater was classified and discharged. Soil was pH adjusted and rehabilitated in a 2 acre area adjacent to the facility following random sampling.
C) Diaz Chemical NPL Site, Holley, NY. I Assisted in the decommissioning and dismantling of process piping and vessels, and material sampling and profiling. The Site contained 700K gallons of various chemicals including halogenated organics, organic and inorganic acids, mixed solvents, anhydrous ammonia, and caustics contained within approximately 9K drums, 35 large storage tanks, 95 reactor and process vessels, 10 process system scrubbers, a railroad tanker, and ten linear miles of associated process piping. An additional 2K small containers of laboratory reagents and chemicals including high hazard toxins, radioactives, poisons, flammable solids and liquids, air and water reactives, oxidizers, shock sensitives, and potential peroxides were located, stabilized, and labpacked.

4) USEPA Region 2 ERRS, PR/USVI

American Railroad Site, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico
|
OPA funded cleanup of a 100K gallon, concrete storage vault located in a residential neighborhood in PR. The vault contained water with# 6 oil and solid waste. NEIE provided confined space entry crews as well as roll offs & vacuum trailers to complete the removal process and decontamination of the structure. NEIE coordinated with local police for traffic control, the Local Gov’t for permission to limit traffic in proximity of our work area, negotiate with local residents for use of their water, and continue to work closely with USEPA, START contractor and the USCG Strike Team.

5) USACE, Hurricane Katrina Relief Operations, New Orleans, LA

Team subcontractor to ECC, Inc. (USACE Prime) for the performance of removal and restoration services within the storm impacted areas of New Orleans and surrounding parishes. NEIE’s continuing scope of services has included, but is not limited to: Recovery operations coordination; Demolition operations; Debris reduction operations; Landfill site development & management; Environmental disaster emergency response. Debris reduction, removal and disposal operations has included the management of household hazardous waste); asbestos containing material packaging and disposal; demo of houses and other structures; MSW removal; vegetation general debris and white goods management, collection and disposal.

6) USCG, Maritime Removal and Restoration Srvs

NEIE was subcontracted to Shaw Environmental, the USCG prime contractor, to provide maritime restoration following Hurricane Katrina. NEIE’s performed several marine debris removal and hauling operations in the Empire, LA area totaling greater than 7,000 cubic yards. NEIE’s scope of services included utilization of heavy equipment mounted hydraulic shears for dismantlement of ship hulls; segregation& staging of fiberglass, metal, & wooden debris; loading and hauling of debris for disposal; and segregation& staging of potentially haz materials.

Subcontracted to the Prime Contractor ECC, NEIE performed the transportation and disposal of soil contaminated with petroleum and explosive residuals soils from the National Guard Air Station located at the Mass. Military Reservation (MMR) in Otis, MA.
